How to measure your dog

A good fit makes all the difference, whether it’s a coat for colder walks, an everyday collar or a harness. This guide shows you exactly what to measure for each, so you can choose the right size first time.

01

Before you start

All you need is a soft tape measure and a few calm minutes with your dog. Taking their measurements before you order is the best way to get the right fit first time.

  • 01

    Use a soft tape measure

A soft, flexible tape follows your dog’s shape, so the measurement is accurate.

  • 02

    Snug, not tight

The tape should sit comfortably against your dog without pulling tight. Allow a little extra room for fluffy coats.

  • 03

    The two-finger rule

For collars, you should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.

  • 04

    Between sizes? Size up

If your dog falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for comfort.

02

Measuring for a coat or jumper

For coats and jumpers, you need three measurements.

Neck (A)
Measure around the base of your dog’s neck, the point where their collar naturally sits.

Chest (B)
Measure the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.

Length (C)
Measure from the base of the neck, where the collar sits, along the back to the base of the tail.

Make sure the tape is snug but not tight, and allow a little room for comfort, especially for fluffy dogs.

Measuring for a collar

For collars, you only need one measurement.

Neck (A)
Measure around the base of your dog’s neck, the point where their collar naturally sits.

Allow enough room to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck for comfort. If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up.

04

Measuring for a harness

For harnesses, you need two measurements.

Neck (A)
Measure around the base of your dog’s neck, the point where their collar naturally sits.

Chest (B)
Measure the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.

Make sure the tape sits comfortably without pulling tight. If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort and freedom of movement.

05

Matching your measurements to a size

Sizes can vary from one product to another, so each product page has its own size guide. Once you have your measurements, open the size guide on the product and match them to the right size.

If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort. As every dog’s shape is different, fit may vary slightly between breeds.

Frequently asked questions

Which measurements do I need?

It depends on what you’re buying. Collars need a neck measurement, harnesses need neck and chest, and coats and jumpers need neck, chest and back length.

What if my dog is between sizes?

We recommend sizing up for comfort. For harnesses, the larger size also allows more freedom of movement.

Are sizes the same across all your products?

Not always. Sizes can vary between products and styles, so please check the size guide on each product page before ordering.

What if the size isn’t right?

You can return unused items in their original condition within 30 days of delivery under our 30-day money-back guarantee. See our returns policy for full details.
